Are You there Jah, It's Me Ras-Trent

It’s a fine balance between living a multicultural lifestyle and coming off as a poser.  (Or if you’re into the elitest way of spelling, a “poseur”).

The key, I think, is when one sees something in another culture that one likes, they should incorporate that characteristic into their overall style in a seamless and appropriate way.  There’s a difference between someone allowing a culture to inspire specific choices about cuisine, art, or fashion and just parroting a culture.

Enjoy.  Unless you’re in Canada.  Sorry.

Nyabhingi, indeed.

I just want to throw that boy down and... well, anyway. Funny. And I completely agree.

You don't post anything for EIGHT DAYS and when you do it's something Canadians can't read? Nice.

(I still hope you're doing well with the new addition; I'm just not bringing the cookies over anymore.)

@Finn, No, no, finish the sentence. Throw him down and ... ? :)

August 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterFaiqa

@SciFi Dad, Heh. We're doing great. I can't believe Hulu is discriminating against Canadians, too. You should start a protest group. Against Hulu, not me. And HEY what do you mean no cookies?!

August 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterFaiqa

@Faiqa, ...get busy. *wink, wink, nudge, nudge* I seem to have a thing for goofy Jewish boys.

Damn me and living in Canada!

August 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLeSombre

Andy Samberg is one funny fucker.

August 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAvitable

@LeSombre, Not that this has anything to do with my post, but emember that movie with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Julia Roberts where Julia plays Catherine's less pretty, but still very pretty sister with the better personality? I'll let you ascertain which country is which sister if the movie were a metaphor for the US and Canada. I think the ability to view Hulu vids on blogs is integral in the dynamic.

August 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterFaiqa

@Avitable, Mmmhmmm. Say hi to your mother for me.

August 24, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterFaiqa

I LOVE Adam Samberg!
That video is completely funny. And I totally agree with you on the sentiments about parroting culture. I see some people and it's like, "WTF?!".

@Finn, You too?? 2 of my pas boyfriends were goofy Jewish boys. ::swoon::

August 25, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterRobin

My favorite part of the video is the real rasta guys looking at him funny. Bwah!!

August 25, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterRobin

that was funny, but it's also, sadly, so realistic!

August 25, 2009 | Unregistered Commenternancy

I heard N. humming a part of this song yesterday. What kind of 'worksheets' is she really doing during the day? :)

August 25, 2009 | Unregistered Commentertariq

i remember this one. not one of my favorite digital shorts, but i love me some andy samburg nonetheless...

August 25, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterSlyde

@tariq, hahahahaha

I think I saw a chalk board in your house the last time I was over there. It said "Studies of the effects of pop culture: 1-1:30"

There was also something about "Feminism in today's world: 2-2:30" - just a heads up.

Are you trying to tell me that wearing this red dot on my forehead is inappropriate??

But that food was SO. GOOD!

August 25, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMiss Britt

Where am I? Did I move to Canada?? Nope, I just have the dumbest computer on the planet and therefore cannot see anything!!! Oh well...

August 25, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBecca

@Slyde, This one is my favorite, especially the part where he walks by the real Rastas...

August 26, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterFaiqa

@Miss Britt, The red dot is fine. But that time you tried to convince me that we were best friends in a previous life until you died in a towering inferno trying to save the love of your life? That was weird.

August 26, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterFaiqa

@Becca, Boo for the dumbest computer on the planet. You could try googling the title of this post, it might come up on YouTube.

August 26, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterFaiqa

So, wait, I shouldn't run around trying to Force-push people who resemble Dark Lords, I shouldn't open a Jedi temple in my suburban home, and I shouldn't carry my certified authentic replica lightsaber on my belt?

Dang. You just suck the fun out of everything.

@Coal Miner's Granddaughter, Hehehehe, because, you know, Jedi is a culture. Hmmm, I guess it is, if I think about it. And, thank you for making me realize how even I can be culturally insensitive. :)

August 28, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterFaiqa

ahh....sprite can...(wink wink).

August 29, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterZia

I have no idea what you're talking about. But if I did, I would remind you that it was, in fact, a Diet Coke can.::Wink, wink::
