Apparently, You Don't Use It, And You Do Actually Lose It
Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 07:31AM
Just to show me the folly of my ways, the mystical Internet powers that be decided to take away my Internet away for four days.
This past Tuesday's and Wednesday's Internet existence was limited to three minute bouts before I was kicked off. So, technically, if your blog is in my reader, I've probably read your latest post, I just wasn't ale to stay on long enough to leave a riveting and essential comment on said post.
You can make fun of me, but this happens whenever it rains. Has anyone ever heard of that? I'm afraid to call the Internet provider and tell them this for fear of the possibility that they might tell me I'm too stupid to have Internet if I think rain is interfering with my connection.
Given that I gave up Internet on Monday and I was busy on Sunday, that's four days without the Internet.
That's pretty much like living in the Stone Age, right? (Or as I used to say in elementary school, "Bible Times," ROFL).
So, you must have missed me, right?
No problem. I'll be on SecondHand Radio at 10p.m. EST, and you can catch up on all the Faiqa you've missed out on for the past four days. Remember, that's eastern time, so that's like... last Tuesday in California, right? :)

Wooohoooo! Faiqa on Secondhand Tryptophan!!! I'll be there - if freaking Talkshoe actually WORKS for me this time! If not, I will call in and be muted.
Sucks about the internet. I went without in my home for 5 days when the power outages came through. I thought I was going to cry.
Sybil stole my wooooohooooo!
Talk Shoe hates me just as much as it hates Sybil so we'll see how this goes! ::fingers crossed::
Your internet kept kicking you off after 3 minutes? What is this? 1992?
Sigh...I kinda miss 1992.
I'm sorry I won't be able to hear you on the radio tonight...I will be flying into the past.
I've missed you...
of course Earl misses 1992..... he had just turned 50.
p.s. does anyone else mention that for some reason its really hard to scroll down your blog? its the only blog i read where i have this issue, and it happens across different computers.... its just super slow to scroll down and i cant figure it out...
I programmed it so that it would only do it to you. Has anyone else had this problem? Speak now or forever let Slyde feel alone in this world.
You don't happen to have satellite internet service, do you? I lose my DirecTV signal a lot when it's pouring.
Can't imagine 4 days with no Internet. Are we going to hear a very frazzled Faiqa tonight?
To answer the technical question - if you have DSL (digital subscriber line), which runs over copper wires, aka phone lines - yes, the rain can significantly affect your signal if the cables servicing your house are in unprotected tunnels / pipes or in a section of the CO (central office) that is subject to excessive humidity.
Cable-modems are less susceptible to weather-related anomalies. They're also almost always faster.
If you want more info on this fascinating topic, just let me know! :)
This type of thing is why I'm so glad my blackberry is so good at reading blog posts and commenting (most of the time)
Weren't you just complaing the other day that you are obsessed with the internet. Was this a blessing in disguise?
hi faiqa! wandered onto this blog quite by happy accident and found that i also have a slow scrolling problem on your page :-(
What a great show that was. Your voice is very happy and chipper (is the that right word to use?)
