Madagascar 2: First Trip to the Movies

Last Saturday, I took N. to her very first movie in a theater, Madagascar II.
We had a great time. O.K., the truth is she was completely freaked out the whole time. I never realized how loud a movie theater was until now. She kept asking me, "Why is it so loud in here?"
My suspicions have been confirmed. My daughter is a seventy year old woman trapped in a three year old's body.
This is what she did during the entire movie. I'm not exaggerating, and, yes, I brought a camera to the movie theater.
I'm no Dawg or Slyde when it comes to writing movie reviews, but in case you're wondering, I thought the movie was pretty good. It was a little over the top in terms of violence, though. I know most people categorize violence as someone shooting someone else and blood gushing all over the place, but I'm a little conservative (WHAT??!) when it comes to defining violent behavior.
Remember the old lady that beats Alex the Lion up with her purse in the first one? Well, she's in this one, too. And the animals hit her back. Over and over again. I thought it was funny, but my daughter, who has been taught that under no circumstances is she to hit anyone ever, was horrified. She actually asked me why they were hitting each other, and I was like, "Well, honey, it's called suspension of disbelief and even though it seems real, it's not. And that's why it's funny, understand?"
No, I didn't really say that.

when younger, my daughter was always horrified by the loudness in movie theaters, too. maybe it's a kid thing.
poor baby, she looks terrified! you'd think you were taking her to see The Strangers

I've heard good things about the movie. I should take my granddaughter. I haven't seen the first one yet, though.
My granddaughter (who is 5) gets very freaked out by loudness. We went to a water park once and all the rushing noises of the waterfalls and water slides had her stuck to the edge of the water holding her ears and shaking. Eventually she got used to it and enjoyed herself, but it was frustrating.
That picture is too funny! I think Hannah will probably have the same reaction. Maybe we should torture them together next time?

@Shelli: Yeah, I could see my girl having the same reaction. She *did* have a good time a little, though, because she hasn't stopped talking about how we took her to the movies.
@Tami: Definitely. Torture is way better when multiple victims are involved. Plus, you take waaaay better photos than me. ;)
The first movie I took Emma to was Kung Fu Panda. She freeeeaaaaked. She didn't even want to go down the hallway that led to the theater because it was dark.
I don't think kids should be allowed in movie theaters until they're at least 6 or 7.
our hearing is so damaged compared to young childrens' hearing. it must seem especially loud to them!

@Avitable: I wouldn't be surprised if you thought children should be kept in little pods continuously until they're six or seven.
@nancy: I know, right? I'm pretty sure there's a report somewhere out there about how we're all going to be deaf when we're 60 from listening to our iPods at full volume.

i cannot BELEIVE that earl is SO lame that he attemped to turn praise bestowed upon me towards his own lame attempt at movie reviewing......
if i wasnt ALSO a member of moviegrenade, i would be aghast...
She might be deaf and terrorized now, but she is still super cute!
(And she will get over the movie thing. Next time, she'll love it.)

I know she's scared in the picture but that is seriously so cute!
I've never taken a small child to the movies. My God-daughter moved to Illinois when she was 3 and I never was able to take her.
Does it help that I think the movies are STILL too loud a lot of the times? Probably not.
